If you picked up one of our micro building block sets — like the Qiexiey Starlight Skull Bear, the Capybara, the Penguin with Headphones, or the Kittens Flying Pets — here’s how to put it together. These sets come with instructions in the box, but they’re usually in Chinese with machine-translated text that can be hard to follow. This guide breaks it down clearly in English.

What You Need

  • Your sealed micro building block set
  • A flat, clean workspace
  • Patience (some sets have hundreds of tiny pieces!)
  • A small tool or fingernail for separating pieces if they get stuck

How the Blocks Snap Together

Micro building blocks connect the same way as any interlocking brick — just smaller. Each block has studs on top and hollow receptors on the bottom.

  • To connect: Align the studs with the receptors and press down firmly until they click.
  • To disconnect: Grip both pieces and press upward from the bottom to separate them.

They’re tiny, so a firm snap is important. If a piece feels loose, make sure it’s fully seated.

Assembly Process — Layer by Layer

These sets are built one layer at a time from the bottom up. Here’s how to follow the step-by-step diagrams included in your box:

Step 1: Build the Base Layer

Start with the very first diagram. Lay out all the pieces shown and snap them together to form the bottom layer of your figure.

Step 2: Add the Next Layer

Move to the next diagram. You’ll notice the image shows two types of blocks:

  • Gray or light blue blocks = These are the pieces you already built in the previous step. They’re shown as a reference so you know where to place the new pieces. Don’t rebuild these — they’re already done.
  • Colored blocks on top = These are the NEW pieces you need to add in this step.

Simply find the colored pieces and snap them onto the matching positions on top of your existing build.

Step 3: Repeat

Every step after that works the same way:

  1. Look at the diagram
  2. Ignore the gray/light blue reference blocks (already built)
  3. Add only the new colored blocks on top
  4. Move to the next step

Keep going until the final step, and you’ll have your completed figure!

Pro Tips

  • Sort your pieces first. Group them by color before you start — it makes finding the right block way faster.
  • Work in good lighting. The pieces are tiny, and some colors (dark blue vs. black, light gray vs. white) can look similar.
  • Don’t force it. If a piece won’t fit, double-check you have the right block and the right position.
  • Use the product photo as a reference. If a step diagram is confusing, look at the finished product photo to understand what the completed section should look like.
  • Take breaks. These builds can take a while depending on the piece count. No rush!

Finished Size

Most of our micro block sets finish at roughly 3 to 6 inches tall depending on the model. They make great desk decorations, shelf displays, or gifts.
